The model begins by considering 28 variables. Thirteen of these variables are dictated by the department's objectives and policies; for example, the desired response time the department wishes to achieve. The number of officers calculated by the AMP model is thereby a defensible number based on a logical process and careful analysis.
Allocation Model for Patrolwill even project multiple patrol officer allocation numbers (or solutions) for your department as you adjust variables such as patrol visibility and self-directed activity. In this way you may see how these variables increase or diminish the optimum number of officers needed to support the patrol function. Finally, they will help to answer the age-old question: “How many patrol officers does my department need?”
